Close to Cape Town you can experience a very special phenomenon between July and November. These months are the whale season which means that large groups of these enormous mammals reside just off the coast at the town of Hermanus. You can witness this miracle hassle-free: it is the only place in the world where you can see whales so close to the shores. Previously, you were pretty much dependent on Kruger National Park for making high-quality safaris. With the vast expansion of Addo Elephant National Park and the establishment of quite a few high quality lodges in and around Addo, it is no longer an absolute necessity travelling to Kruger National Park. There are huge shopping malls, great nightlife, theaters, museums, fine restaurants and hotels of great quality. Therefore, when you are staying longer than just one night in Jo'burg (for example during a business trip or because you want a little extra time to recover from the long flight from Europe) then you will certainly not be bored.

The dry landscape surprises with immense open plains, spectacular waterfalls and deep ravines that are especially well visible when walking through the area.
